Preach the World

The opportunities for preaching the Gospel present themselves under different circumstances, in different ways, and at different times.  Paul’s exhortation to Timothy then, is quite apropos:    “Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season” (2 Tim. 4:2). Spanish World Ministries is ready to do just that, as our missionaries eagerly search for opportunities to deliver the message, whether it is through new stations to transmit our broadcasts, or by personally giving the Word to others.

On February 27th, Chile was rocked by a powerful 8.8 magnitude earthquake.  Several regions were stricken, and the toll rose to over 700 people dead, many others missing, and two million displaced, wounded or otherwise affected. Our missionary Andrés Carrasco, traveled through the affected area, visiting radio stations and churches. He personally saw the suffering and sorrow in many faces.  With people’s minds concentrated on the devastation of the moment, the time might not have seemed right to look for additional radio stations.  However, forty two radio stations were visited; thirty seven were for the first time introduced to our programs, and eleven of them agreed to air them.  This brings to seventy two the number of radio stations transmitting our broadcasts in Chile, and more important, a much larger number of people exposed to the Gospel message.  A time of difficulty and need became an opportunity for reaching a wider audience with the Gospel. As he went, Andrés was also able to deliver some food on behalf of Spanish World Ministries to a few station owners, pastors, and families who were struggling to find the most basic items at the time.  A visit in the midst of fallen or damaged buildings was an opportune moment to give a word of encouragement based upon God’s Word.

Caridad with Mayelín

Caridad with Mayelín

For decades, local churches in Cuba have taken every possible opportunity to preach the Word.  Spanish World Ministries has been there through its radio programs, and for the last few years we have worked through our missionary, Mayelin, who takes periodic trips to different parts of the island to visit people who, having heard our broadcasts, have written to us.  In her visits, Mayelin gives them the booklet “Jesus Saves” and a CD with our programs, trusting that these tools will help them to grow in their spiritual lives. Yordanka, had sent us a letter some time ago, and was recently visited by our missionary.  After praying and sharing a Bible passage with her, she expressed her gratitude and said that it was worthy to take the time to write the letter. Karen had written in 2007.  With joy she said that she opened her heart to Jesus one day as she listened to one of our programs. She attends a local church and continues to grow in her spiritual life. Caridad was another believer visited. She was excited with Mayelin’s visit, since she accepted the Lord in her heart about ten years ago as a result of listening to our programs.  All of those who were visited said that they rejoice every time they have the opportunity to hear our programs. Pray that more people in Cuba may discover real freedom in Jesus Christ, as we continue to look for opportunities to preach the Word.

Daniel with his family

Daniel with his family

In Colombia, our missionary Luis Prada was riding a bus to deliver programs to a radio station. The driver noticed the CD’s that Luis was carrying and asked him if those were for sale. He answered that he was delivering the CD’s to a radio station, and that those CD’s contained programs that bring peace and hope. Luis recognized the God giving opportunity to possibly have our programs played not just in a radio station, but in a public bus.  Thus he gave a couple of CD’s to the driver, who proceeded to put them in its CD player.  Meanwhile, Luis praised the Lord because the people riding the bus that morning were hearing the Gospel. A few days later, Luis received a phone call from Daniel, a young man who heard our programs while he was riding a bus. Daniel asked the driver about the programs and she gave him Luis’ phone number. Luis visited him, and Daniel explained that the day when he heard the programs he was burdened with many problems, and said:  “The message came directly to my heart. This program was addressed to me! It was like a glass of fresh water to me!” Luis was able to pray for him and his family, and gave him another set of CD’s, trusting that God will continue to work in his heart.  A single program, played in a bus, became an opportunity to touch Daniel’s life with the Word.  At the same time, this has turned into an opportunity for Luis to continue to visit the family and explain the Gospel to them.

Understanding that God has called us to take every opportunity to preach the Gospel, and that the recorded messages can reach people through the radio, in a public bus, or by simply giving a CD to a person, we are praying for an increase of 100 new stations and two additional national missionaries by the end of this year
