Perú (1) Update Sep/2024

LUIS & ELSA BAILLY

Descendants of the Incas make up 45 percent of Peru’s total population. Their religion is a mixture of polytheism of spirits practiced by the Incas and deities, and Catholicism brought over by the Spanish empire, which forced the early native populations to practice it. Peru’s population is approximately 32.3 million. Seventy-six percent claim to be Catholic, 14 percent Protestant, 5.1 percent atheist, and 4.9 percent other religions. We thank the Lord for the four million and a half Peruvians claiming to be believers. However, reaching the unsaved with the message of the Gospel is far from being accomplished in this country, just as in the rest of Latin America. At Spanish World Ministries, we know that the Peruvians must hear the Gospel and respond to their need for a savior. Our evangelistic programs have been aired through the radio waves in Peru for several decades thanks to the efforts of the missionaries who have served in this country. Since 2020, Luis and Elsa Bailly have been representing our ministry. Thanks to their faithful ministry, the Gospel is aired 4,500 times weekly through the 631 radio stations that have agreed to broadcast it. Peru covers 496,225 sq miles with three regions: coast, highlands, and jungle. It is an excellent challenge for our ministry to visit new radio stations to introduce our programs and supply programs to stations that agree to air them. But, Luis diligently fulfills his call as a missionary of Spanish World Ministries.
